Duties & taxes
International shopping should feel transparent. Here is how import charges work when your parcel crosses borders — and what you can expect at checkout versus on delivery.
At checkout
Where supported for your destination, applicable duties, taxes and import fees are calculated and shown before you complete payment. This helps avoid surprises on delivery and is sometimes called Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) or taxes included at checkout.
- Supported regions see a single total that includes estimated import charges where the carrier and destination allow it.
- If checkout cannot calculate duties for your address, the order total reflects product and shipping only — see below for on-delivery charges.
- Currency conversion uses the rate shown at checkout; your bank may apply its own rate for international cards.
If charges apply on delivery
- Some destinations require payment of local VAT, customs duty or handling fees when the parcel arrives.
- These amounts are set by your country's customs authority and local carrier, not by LaceRealm.
- Carriers may charge a disbursement or handling fee for collecting duty on your behalf.
- Refusing a parcel due to import fees may result in the return being treated as a customer refusal — original shipping may not be refunded.
By region (general guidance)
- European Union: VAT may apply based on item value and category; thresholds vary by member state.
- United Kingdom: VAT and duty may apply on goods above the de minimis threshold.
- United States: duty is often low for apparel under personal-import thresholds, but state sales tax rules vary.
- Australia, Canada, Japan and others: GST/VAT and duty rules differ — checkout or your carrier will advise when payment is due.
Customs documentation
Commercial invoices are attached to international parcels with accurate item descriptions and values. We declare the price you paid. Requesting a lower declared value for customs is not something we can accommodate.
